1 16 Grout Line Marble
Will be doing a very light grey grout laticrete silver shadow.
1 16 grout line marble. I attached some photos of bathroom on houzz that had grout that i liked. Grout polished marble with tight joints up to 1 8 inch with nonsanded grout since sanded grout will scratch the surface of the marble. A small grout line width about 1 16 inch is possible if the flooring tile is consistent in size also called a rectified tile as mentioned above. For small format tiles that do not have lugs i will usually use 1 16 spacers.
Normally the lugs will create grout lines that are 1 32 to 1 16 of an inch. Any my opinions on 1 16 vs 1 8 would be appreciated. Marble is a cut product manufactured to extremely tight tolerances and usually designed to be installed with 1 16 spacing. For instance 8 inch slate tiles will usually look better with a slightly larger grout line.
A rectified edge allows for smaller grout lines because the the precision cut of the edge of the tile itself. This thickness leaves room for the natural variation in size and the perfectly imperfect edges of handmade tile. When the space between tiles is so little like 1 32 which is often referred to as credit card lines or penny lines it s not possible to fill that space all the way through the bottom of the tile. Depending upon the texture and consistency of the tiles i may use 1 8 spacers on occasion.
There is less irregularity so less spacing is needed between each piece of tile. Using the smallest grout possible will increase installation time. We recommend a 3 16 grout size for our ceramic tile line. Second i d like to have a somewhat larger grout line to break up all the marble that will be going on and to show off the herringbone pattern on the floors.
Got a big 1 2 grout line. Generally sanded and unsanded grout should never be mixed and absolutely never with marble or any other surface that can be scratched by the sand in grout note. Unsanded grouts have a much smoother texture since the mineral particles they contain are very fine powders that have no noticeable grit. Push the grout into the grout joints with the tip of.
This essentially means we don t have to debate over sanded or unsanded grout or worry that one product is better for one application but we better use some other one for something else. When used with with wider seams unsanded grouts have a tendency to crack because they lack the binding power offered by sanded grouts. Note that using the smallest grout possible will increase installation time. Got a small 1 16 grout line.
This is an acceptable space that can be properly grouted. They are used with grout seams that are 1 16 to 1 8 inch wide.
